Vista DVD ISO's

Most of my backup DVD's are ISO's which will allow a reburn (essential with how the kids handle the DVD's sometimes) or a mount and play. On my XP computer that was straightforward, including the XP laptop, but how to do it on Vista?

Step 1 - Create the ISO. Installation of DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 was the same on Vista as XP and has no reduced functionality. A rip-off (pardon the pun) of Little Mermaid on the XP computer and Matrix Revolutions on the Vista Ultimate tablet had Little Mermaid in the lead, but that was probably due to less compression required. The deep analysis phase of both were at about the same throughput without peaking the CPU over 90%.

Step 2 - Mount the ISO. There's nothing built-in to Vista to mount an ISO file. I was hoping that with a powertoy available for XP to do this, it would come with Vista but no such luck. Elby's CloneDrive 5.1.4.5 installs on Vista so that solves the issue, and thanks to some forums that warned away from using Daemon Tools on Vista this was the obvious choice. I have noticed the file association with ISO files will not automatically mount correctly, but going to the virtual drive and mounting was okay.

Step 3 - Watch the ISO. On the Windows XP computers PowerDVD was often used to watch DVD's due to the codec issue with Windows Media Player. The sweet thing with Vista Ultimate is that either Windows Media Player 11 or Media Center are both seamless to watch movies.

Step 4 - Precautions. Keep popcorn out of the tablet keyboard.
